With several different size and color combinations from which to choose, you can easily create an entire matching travel set for longer vacations—or select individual bags for smaller excursions. The handcrafted embroidery features cotton thread on nylon-polyester fabric, with a water-resistant 1/16-inch polyurethane backing. An artform in itself, the embroidery designs are hand-guided, free motion, on a nonelectric, foot-operated treadle sewing machine that saves energy and eliminates the need for electricity—making Laga Designs a pioneer in environmentally sound manufacturing processes.
Nonelectric Treadle Machines: Paving the Way for Green Manufacturing
Treadle machines are built to last—so it’s no surprise that even the older machines are still in operation at Laga Designs’ headquarters in Aceh, Indonesia. Requiring no electricity to run, treadle machines stop when the seamstress stops, ensuring that she has complete control over the machine’s speed. The machines are also low-maintenance, needing only a few drops of oil per year and the occasional tightening of any loose screws.
